Characteristics: It is an underground fungus that grows on the roots of various conifers with a reddish brown skin and a hard starchy interior varying in color from pure white to light tan. It is used both as food and medicine. It is one of the most reliable yin tonics and diuretics in Chinese pharmacopoeia. It regulates fluid balance throughout the system and especially those of the kidney. It also has cancer prevention properties.

 

Therapeutic effects: Promote diuresis to eliminate dampness from spleen such as edema; tranquilize the mind for heart palpitations and insomnia.
